A piece of fanfiction I'm working on. I'm not done yet, buuuuuut, I wanted to see what people thought. C:
To think, it happened so long ago... When it seems as if it only just happened.
They got along so well back then, the Elder and the Younger. They never fought, never argued, and never displeased one another. That was when they were still living in the false reality.
The Father and the Mother were the creators of this reality, and in it lived all of the Family. All were happy with it, but they knew no better. Only the Father and the Mother knew, and they would tell not a soul. At least, not until the Elder was of age.
That day... Our lives changed forever.
The Elder stood before the Father and Mother, head cocked to the side and soft black hair flowing over her shoulders. She wore a faint smile, a smile that seemed to be permanently fixed upon her lips. All around her was the sun-filled courtroom in which the Father and the Mother were always in, governing the Family. It was long and wide, and made entirely of marble and stone. The columns bore intricate designs and were each covered with large grape vines, each heavy with fruit. The floors, slightly cracked in places from age, held many veins and different hues, as marble often does, and in the cracks grew soft, spongy moss. Overall, it almost looked as if no one lived there, as if it had been abandoned for many years. Yet, this was not the case. And in it's current state, where you could not really see much of a difference between inside and out, there was a certain beauty to be found in the scene. This was the case pretty much everywhere else in the goddess's bosom, as it were so aptly named by the wise Father and the knowledgeable Mother, and it was this beauty that the Elder felt peace in. Felt happiness in. After all, it was familiar to her. She had lived with it all her life.
The Elder slowly blinked her catlike green eyes. "Father? Mother? You wished to see me?"
The Father nodded. "Indeed we did, oh radiant Elder." This was new. And she was slightly taken aback. Never before had she received a title when being addressed.
The Mother spoke, "As you are aware, you are now at an age where your childhood is forgotten, and your adulthood is embraced." The Elder nodded.
The Mother and Father spoke in unison, their voices resounding deeply around her.
"Then it is time for you to be made aware of your world." What? She thought, thoroughly confused. Then, something shimmered across her vision. The warmth and beauty faded from her sight, and in it's place was a barren wasteland, with hot, stinging air, blackened greenery, and dark, unforgiving grey skies.
Her green gaze quickly shot over to her parents, who still sat upon their thrones. Something was different about them, too. They seemed less real. They seemed empty, and cold. Mother gave a smile, intended it was to be soft and reassuring, all she saw was something that fed fear into her soul. "Do not fear, beloved one, it is all right. This is just the world as it truly is. The world you know is simply an illusion."
"To sustain this illusion of peace and happiness to our people" Father had said, "We must feed upon the blood of the mortals." She felt something unfamiliar rise within her. It started deep within the pit of her stomach and rose. It was repulsion.
"It's for the best." Mother had said, "The mortals have all but destroyed the world. By sustaining our illusions of the goddess's bosom, they are repaying a great debt." Elder believed not one word of this. The smell of death and blood, the deafening screams, the horrible feeling that surrounded her... There was no way she could accept this as just.
"Dear Levina..." Came the Father's voice. Curiosity flicked across her mind. For the first time since the charm, the veil of lies had been lifted from her eyes, she spoke.
"Who is... Levina?" She questioned,
"It is you, dear Elder. It is your name. Your true name." Echoed the Mother's voice. It sounded soft and sweet, not unlike a bell. It was intended to lull and relax, but all it did was make her anger swell. Her throat was tight, her mouth was dry.
"My name...? What is a name?"
The Father answered, "The most powerful thing one can know. A name holds the key to one's power, and yours, dear child, is Levina. Lightning." Her head was swimming. Power? What power could she possibly possess? Something passed through her, it sent her falling to her knees. It was a sensation she had never experienced before. She cried out. She cried out because of the sensation, and because of the fear that it brought. Soon words attached themselves to the feeling.
Burning, stinging, aching, stabbing...
Pain. This was pain. What was causing this? "What- What is this?" She demanded, fear and anger seething from her words.
The voices replied in unison, "Your true form is awakening. Soon you shall be ready to join us in protecting what is left of our kind." Her form was changing, she could feel it. Her body ached as her bones changed and grew into an unfamiliar shape, and her skin crawled as scales, black as Satan's heart, grew and covered her flesh, and her blood stopped running warm. A deafening screech filled the air, this time from her and not the victims of the Mother and Father. Slowly, her thoughts slowed, and all she was aware of was an animalistic lust for blood and death. To spread despair and tragedy. The large black lizard spread it's great leathery wings, intending to take off in flight and satisfy the lust for chaos--
--And with a burning feeling pressed against her chest, she formed back into the lithe humanesque figure she had gone through her entire life wearing. Breathing heavy, she looked done, to see a silver change with a glowing jade pendant hanging from her neck, falling to rest on her breast. Her gaze shot back up to the thrones. They were both smiling. Fury raged within her heart. How could they just sit there and smile at this? This sick, twisted nightmare she almost couldn't believe was real. Yet, she knew it was because of the pain.
"You are complete," they said, sounding pleased. Not with her, but with themselves. "Go now, Levina. Go and rest. We shall discuss this further on the morrow when you have recovered from your first transformation." So many things she could have said, so many things she could have done. All of them bold and brave in their intent, but overall completely foolish. Slowly, shaking, she stood, her white dress only slightly torn in places. Saying no more, she gave a brief curtsy, then hurried out of the room.
Like I said. Not done, just wanted some general feedback. x3
