Neanderthals and Cetra
So I was watching a show on Neanderthals...
Seems they were a species of people that existed alongside modern man, but not the same species modern man. While modern man became the dominant species, the Neanderthals died out—though not exactly through extinction. Because they were able to interbreed with modern man, they were bred out of existence. Now, there are people today who, in varying percentages (around 3%, and often higher in Europeans than in Asians and Africans), still carry Neanderthal DNA within them.
That said, I wonder if something similar happened with the Cetra. Rather than just going extinct, they were bred out by the humans. Therefore, it could be feasible that there are humans out there that have, in small percentages, Cetra DNA within them. Then, similarly to how Neanderthal DNA can be present in our DNA that handles immunity, maybe the Cetra DNA makes some people less susceptible to things like Mako poisoning than others. Or maybe it’s some of the people out there who suffer from audible hallucinations, and have been written off as schizophrenic, are really just hearing the planet. XD
At any rate, if such is the case with some humans having small amounts of Cetra DNA, I wonder what certain people would do with this information if they figured it out…

Oh, that's an interesting thought. I know it's definitely commented ingame that there was a group of cetra that settled down and sort of became the precursors to current-game humans, so theoretically most if not all of them would have at least some amount of Cetra DNA?

That's something I've never quite been clear about--whether cetra and humans are the same species, or if it is something like homo-sapien and homo-antiquis. Same genus, different species, reflecting how things went in our own world in ancient times. XD Or, if Cetra and humans are the same thing, in both species and genus. But if that is so, then all humans from FF7 would genetically be Cetra, ergo, "ancients." Unless "tribe" in Cetra refers to tribe in scientific classification, then they would be something humanoid, possibly still another type of hominidae, but not "human". However, I'm not sure if things are interbred at the tribe level, so this is probably not what it refers to? (Unless Aerith is sterile, then maybe so! OH HO HO)
XD
I'm more likely to believe something closer to homo-sapien and homo-antiquis(cetra), if they are two separate indigenous species that bred together.
Then again, I've also heard talk that the Cetra and Humans were two species cohabitating the planet, but humans were not indigenous (one of those rumors giving claim to developers hinting about the humans of FF7 being descended from Spirans--Shinra and the Farplane, now that's a taught! Rufus Shinra a direct descendant of Al-Bhed Shinra? Who knows, with all the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey going on. LOL XD).
Putting that together with the ingame mentioning of that group of Cetra that did settle down, this lead me to the idea of interbreeding between the two species, which gave rise to the modern humans of the PLANET. It might be an explanation for the inconstancy of humans and Cetra being mentioned as both different and the same, and how pure Cetra can still exist.
I feel like I'm going to have to finally get around to taking that biology class this fall... I suspect my muse is contracting a bad case of Hojoitis...
