Name: Mina Theurton
Nicknames/Alias: None
FF: VII
Age: 27
Height/build: 5’4”, 130 lbs
DoB: July 14
Race: Human
Weapon: Dagger, pistol
Level: 37
Strength: 111
Physical: 35
Magical: 18
Agility: 58
Special Skill(s):
Assassinate – Mina is a very sneaky Turk. She may not be the strongest, but she can sneak up on people or monsters and gain a pre-emptive strike from behind. This has a 20% chance of killing a monster instantly, if she hits the correct spot. When used against a person, if it is a character being played she won’t kill them (unless it has been predetermined that they will be killed off). If it is against an NPC, it may work or it may not depending on the story. She is not always successful, at least not at first. If needed, she has a pistol to follow up with to complete the kill.
Chocobos – Mina can manage to get the skittish birds to trust her far easier than most people can. She doesn’t need greens most of the time, but she has gotten the odd peck from the birds if she has pushed them too far.
Magic: Ice Materia – Ice, Ice 2; Time Materia – Haste; Sense Materia – Sense
Summon: None
Appearance:
Hair – Long black hair that falls to about the middle of her back. It is almost always pulled back in a tight bun to keep it all out of her face. She will only leave it down for a special occasion.
Eyes – Stormy grey eyes that can look blue in some lights.
Ears – Has pierced ears, but rarely wears earrings in them. If she does, they are usually simple studs.
Clothing – Mina can normally be found wearing her Turk uniform. She wears her short black boots that come up to her ankles, the black suit that is known to many, as well as a white button-up shirt underneath. Her tie is always present. She cares a great deal about her appearance, so it is rare to find a hair out of place, or a uniform that is less than immaculate. When she is off-duty she prefers to wear simple clothing. She will usually be in black pants, flat shoes, and a single-coloured tank top. Her ‘personal’ item that she will always wear is a small silver locket in the shape of a heart with a letter ‘M’ on the front. Inside is a picture of her older brother, Taego, who had been killed in WEAPON’s attack on Junon five years ago.
Personality: Mina isn’t a huge talker. She prefers to focus on her surroundings more intently than to bother with words. That being said, when she does have something to say, she can be very blunt. She has had very few problems telling people how she feels about them, which sometimes gets her into trouble. The only person she is a little more hesitant around being bold with is Rufus Shinra. She will often be ‘strong and silent’ in his presence, not only because he is her charge but she also has a bit of hero-worship for the man. She has many private sketches of her President, all done from memory.
She enjoys spending time with her fellow Turks, though she thinks herself the most ‘human’ of all of them. She is still a killer, however she has regretted some of her actions in the past. She has seen no such feelings from the others. She tries to keep her own emotions under wraps until she is alone, and is normally successful. Her loyalty is unwavering, to both Rufus and the Turks.
The female Turk has a soft spot for children and animals. Strange, for a Turk, but she can’t seem to force that particular characteristic away. She also feels that she isn’t as ruthless with her kills as her partners. Her talents lie in stealth and speed, and whenever possible will make quick work of her targets. She takes her job very seriously and would follow Rufus to the end of the world if necessary.
History: Mina was born in Junon, and lived there most of her life. Her mother and father were fairly well off, and she had an older brother whom she idolized named Taego. The siblings were polar opposites – Mina had dark hair while Taego had light, Mina’s eyes were lighter while Taego’s were dark, Mina was more quiet and Taego was loud and obnoxious. As they grew older they only got closer, sometimes getting into deep trouble with their parents from their antics.
When Mina was twelve, her brother joined the military. He moved to Midgar to train, but Taego stayed in touch with his baby sister through the phone and email. His main goal was to join SOLDIER, and become one of the elite members. She missed him terribly, but refused to talk to her parents about it. She didn’t have many friends growing up, as most of the kids in Junon thought she was weird because she said so little. When she would speak, it was often something unexpected and it either startled or annoyed them. She spent the majority of her time alone in her room. During her alone time, she found that she had a talent for sketching.
The years continued, and the young girl became young woman. She matured faster than the other girls her age, and would generally get frustrated with their constant focus on sexuality. She enjoyed watching people instead, and brought her sketchbook with her most places she went to. When she was fifteen, she ran into the first real trouble she had had in her life. She had been walking home late at night when she was attacked from behind and pinned against a nearby wall. After getting knocked around a bit, she managed to get her feet into position to give her attacker one solid shove away from her. Once she was free, she had the option to stay and fight or to flee. Anger surged through her as she faced the man who had gotten the jump on her, and she chose the former. Mina had learned how to defend herself on one of her brother’s visits home. He had learned much in Midgar, and was eager to pass on some tips to his sister.
The smaller woman managed to get a few good shots into her attacker before he recovered and fought back. The two engaged in a type of dance, with Mina darting in quickly to strike before breaking free. Her attacks did little damage, though the staggering number of hits she landed did the trick and he eventually fell unconscious. Wearily picking up her book that had dropped when she had been surprised, she barely made it home and to her room before collapsing from pain and exhaustion. When she awoke the next day, she was sure to wear long clothing to cover her bruises and scrapes she had sustained. Not that her parents would have noticed. Since she had become a teenager she avoided interacting with them as much as possible, which they were content with as well.
That lone event changed her more than she ever thought possible. Realizing that she could barely hold her own in a fight, she decided to train herself to become stronger. After her body healed (which took more time than she would like to admit), she spent nearly every day strengthening it and after nearly a year her small body had toned into a beautiful fighting machine. Her physical strength was still rather low, lower than she would have liked, but she was quick. It was during this new year that she encountered her second life-changing event; the arrival of Rufus Shinra to Junon. She had witnessed the President coming and going through her city, but never his son. She was intrigued by the younger Shinra, and attempted to research more about the young man, though most things were kept confidential.
During that time Mina continued to train herself. She was determined to never allow herself to become a victim again, and she started to carry a small dagger with her everywhere. She secluded herself from the others in Junon even more, absorbing herself in her sketching and observing people instead. When Rufus took over as President for his father’s company, Mina was thrilled! The now twenty-two year old cared little about the older man’s death, but she was still very intrigued by Rufus. Perhaps now she could learn a little more about him. When he returned to Junon for the elaborate parade, her brother was also reassigned to the Junon detachment. He had never made it into SOLDIER, but had decided to stay with the military. Mina watched the procession from her window, though she couldn’t tell which soldier was Taego. She managed to sneak down towards the procession, and successfully made it very close to Rufus and a rather large man dressed in a green suit. Eventually she was noticed by a blonde woman in a black suit. Mina recognized the uniform as the Turks, and her hand dropped to her side where her dagger was sheathed.
Elena, the young Turk, noticed the movement and frowned. She attacked, thinking Mina was about to go after the President, and Mina managed to dodge most of the blonde’s attacks. This was a very different battle than her alleyway fight for her life. She even got in a few slashes with her dagger before they were interrupted by a Wutaian man. Rufus was already aboard the ship, so Mina was ‘no threat’ to him any longer. Sephiroth took priority. He called Elena away and surprisingly allowed the dark haired woman to live, though he took note of how close she had gotten where no others had succeeded. The pair of Turks left Junon, and Mina returned home to find her brother waiting for her.
With Rufus as President it was much easier for the young woman to follow his progress. He was very similar to what she imagined him to be like. He knew what he wanted and did whatever it took to make it his. He was somebody she could respect. Taego managed to teach her a few more techniques, but was impressed with Mina’s ability to keep up with him and even beat him in a few sparring matches. In almost no time at all, Rufus returned to Junon with some of the key members of AVALANCHE. It was no secret that they were behind the strange, glowing orb that had appeared in the sky, and Rufus intended to make them pay for their crime. Taego had been directed to prevent any civilians from entering the execution chamber, until alarms started blaring - WEAPON was attacking.
Mina was caught outside when the canon was charged up. Junon had a failsafe built into it to protect the city against a threat, and once the canon was charged thick impenetrable walls raised to shield the residents. The canon fired, but missed as WEAPON continued its approach to the city. The woman found herself down another alleyway with a perfect view of the colossal monster, though she was still some distance away. She also caught sight of her brother rushing outside to give the canon more time to charge. A huge tidal wave accompanied the arrival of WEAPON, and Taego was thrown from the city into the water. He couldn’t swim as he had always feared the water. Mina rushed out of the alleyway keeping one eye on the monster as she tried to catch sight of her brother, but was wrestled back by another Shinra grunt. The canon fired once more, at point blank range striking WEAPON in the head, and the creature slid back into the water in death. Taego’s body washed ashore two days later.
With her brother’s death, Mina decided to finally leave Junon. She followed Rufus back to Midgar, though she was confined to the slums underneath. Shinra had stated that they were going after Sephiroth once more, removed the canon from Junon, and brought it to Midgar. In only a few short days, the canon was ready to be used. An announcement had just been issued that the canon would be fired shortly, when another WEAPON emerged from the sea. The newscaster was keeping everybody in the slums posted on the situation, but the people could see the mako being redirected from the reactors to the canon. The single shot was fired and successfully broke through the barrier, but not before the WEAPON fired on Midgar. The Shinra building was destroyed, and Mina was at a loss for what to do. She decided to stay in Midgar, but was attacked once again. The slums were dangerous, though she had still held onto her dagger from Junon.
This time she had been surrounded by three men. She brought two of them down, sustaining multiple fairly minor injuries, before the third managed to disarm her. The killing didn’t bother her, as it was her life or theirs. She didn’t have anywhere to go at that point as the third man fully backed her into the corner, before a familiar face jumped into the fray and killed the third assailant. It was Elena! The blonde was accompanied by two other Turks, a red-haired man (Reno) and a bald martial artist (Rude). Reno had been impressed with Mina’s fighting, even though she was about to lose, and told her that she would have made a fine Turk with some more training. The Turks were about to go under though, with Rufus dead and their leader gone.
When Meteor started to fall, Mina had just made it over to Kalm. She watched the red orb with fascination, as well as the white magic Holy's attempt to stop the destruction. It wasn’t until the Lifestream burst free from the planet that Meteor was destroyed, although Midgar was as well. Mina moved to Edge when it was established, and lived there for a couple of years. She watched as the people around her were struck by Geostigma, but she still hadn’t made friends with any of the other inhabitants. She tended to keep to herself, simply sketching, and not knowing what else to do she would go out of the city and battle monsters to continue her training. Mina was in the city when Bahamut Sin was summoned, and was one of the few residents of Edge that were fighting the monsters that had appeared. It was here that she saw Reno and Rude again, battling two silver haired men.
An explosion caught her attention, and as she turned to see what the cause was she saw a familiar figure falling from one of the buildings. It was Rufus – he hadn’t been killed by WEAPON? She followed Reno and Rude to a side street and caught sight of the first two Turks she had ever seen, Tseng and Elena, standing with Rufus seated in his chair. She caught Tseng’s attention and he came over to speak with her. She wanted to become a Turk. It was the only job that had interested her, and it was all she had thought about since Reno had mentioned it two years before. The Wutaian hesitated, but he remembered her from Junon. She had some skill, that part was obvious. He eventually agreed that she could train with Elena, Reno, and Rude, before he made a decision.
After a full year, only managing to sneak glimpses of Rufus from time to time, Tseng decided to make Mina a Turk. Though she was excited, beyond excited actually, she simply thanked him and changed into her uniform when it was presented to her. Over the next year, she had been given a few assignments requiring her talents. She had killed a few people, otherwise she was strictly a bodyguard to Rufus.
When the Merge occurred, she continued guarding her President. Many people underestimated her because of her size, and more than one died from that thought process. She had been on a separate assignment gathering information when Rufus was branded a l’Cie, but she didn’t understand what the strange mark meant. She vowed to find out, and to protect him from whatever was heading his way.
