A while ago, we talked about bringing back awards, but there's been some debate about how to handle them. We thought it would be best if everyone was included in deciding, so any and all input would be appreciated!
Right now, the system we have in mind works like this: nominations are put up, and from there, the entire forum has one or two weeks to vote between the nominees. Once voting is over, the awards go in the sidebar for the month, and when voting time comes again, the next nominations are picked. The problem is the nominations themselves: we can either let everyone decide them, allowing another week or more of discussion and debate, or we could have them picked by staff, which means a little less control by everyone else over the outcome.
Either way has its pros and cons. Allowing everyone to discuss and decide the nominees allows for more participation, but could potentially get messy and drawn out. Staff decision would still leave everyone to choose the winners from among the nominees, but would limit choices.
There's also the matter of the awards themselves: they're going to take up a good chunk of the sidebar even if I make them fairly small, so we have to limit them. How many would you all like to see? What kinds?
Of course, any other questions/concerns/suggestions, please voice them now! We would like the awards to be something everyone can enjoy, and we can't do that without your input.
