Name: Deidrick Johann Eisler
Nicknames/Alias: Prefers to be called Johann by friends—it sounds much more refined than the rough sounding Deidrick—but some punk started calling him Dee, instead. The girly nickname stuck, much to his consternation. Generally, he may just be referred to as Dr. Eisler (or just Eisler). Other nicknames may be, but are not limited to the following: , nerd, bookworm, that squint from the Science Department, lab geek, dandy, pencil-pusher, egg-head, pencilneck, and hey you.
FF: FFVII
Age: 28
Height/build: 5’10” with a lanky build.
DoB: 1984
Race: Human
Weapon: A low caliber pistol and a whole lot of duct tape. His intellegance might also be dangerous, for he is a genious.
Level (Anywhere between 1-100): 40
Strength: 120
(Split the strength up between physical, magical, and agility.)
Physical: 15
Magical: 65
Agility: 40
Special Skill(s): Although he is adequate with the handgun, he is not a combatant or warrior-type. Rather, he could roughly be considered to be closer to a mage who carries an emphasis on its possible technological applications. A technician and self-proclaimed polymath, he carries an interest for both science and the art. Eisler boasts an IQ upwards of 190, and has studied coursework in variety of areas including literature, music, art, theatre, philosophy, spychology, sociology, anthropology, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, and computer science; however, the following are his specializations:
- MACHINIST (MAIN) -
(Adaptation: Computer Science / Digital Forensics)
- The extraction of data from computers, mobile devices, networks, and databases (can include hacking to bypass security measures).
- Video analysis--which includes non-linear editing as well as working with CCTV and other video surveillance technology.
Audio analysis--which includes digital signal processing, adaptive filtering, voice biometrics, and electrical network frequency analysis.
- Intuitive understanding of electronics. He may be able to figure out mechanical devices as well, given enough resources and research.
- SCHOLAR / ALCHEMIST (SUB) -
(Adaptation: Questioned Document Examination / Chemistry)
- Handwriting analysis
- Knowledgeable about the printing processes, and can identify the source of typewriting documents from impressions, marks, or other relative evidence that distinguish typewriters, photocopiers, laser printers, ink jet printers, fax machines, chequewriters, rubber stamps, price markers, and label makers.
- Can determine document alterations, additions, erasures, obliterations, and instances of forgery.
- Experienced in the use of loupes, stereomicroscopes, electrostatic detection devices, and video spectral comparators.
- Find indentations left on blank papers left behind when a sheet that used to be atop it was written upon.
- Match together the puzzles pieces of shredded documents
- Sequence determination , in which it determined in what order information was written on a document.
- Working knowledge of chemistry.
- Can perform tests on questionable documents to determine if there are any lethal contaminants.
- Can analyze the chemical composition of various inks, graphite, and paper in order to trace their manufacturer origins.
– MISC –
- Coinsure of eclectically pointless facts (read: policies and procedures) that nobody really cares about or wants to hear.
- Can brew a darn good cop of coffee.
- Participated in orchestra back in high school. Learned Cello.
- As a rookie Turk, he has been learning self-defense and marksmanship. Although by no means a fighter, he has picked up enough training to attempt to run the heck away from a bad situation. If not, he will hide in an air duct… or come up way to stall or escape.
- Due to higher Magic stats, magitek may potentially be something he can reverse engineer with time.
- Due to higher Magic stats, he incorporates materia with his weapon and tools (see magic for more info).
Magic: Magical aptitude is based loosely on SCHOLAR capabilities, crossed with a magitek application or execution. The spells he uses would be from materia. Ones he may have in his supplies are CURE and SENSE (used in lieu a scholar's Study ability), ICE, LIGHTNING, FIRE, EARTH, POISON, and MYSTIFY (in lieu of scholar's Lore spell, Mad Science). The casting of elemental spells will be similar to the method of a gun mage, as that the equipment slot for such materia will be in his pistol. His loupe/goggles/HUD-Helmet would have sense equipped.
Summon: None.
Appearance: Eisler has shaggy brown hair that sometimes seems to take on a violet due, depending on the lighting. His eyes are a green that often encroaches upon blue. He does not really understand the ever-changing world of fashion, so he tends to stick to the more classical forms of attire. Overall, he dresses like a drab funeral director with his monochromatic suits and vests. His braided hair is probably most interesting thing about him his appearance, as that he incidentally cannot remember to cut it but twice a year—a habit that would probably have his Aunt spinning in her gave…if only that darling old biddy would deign to find her way into a coffin instead of his business.
Personality: As a man who often comes across to people as haughty and arrogant, he believes himself to be quite brilliant—a scholar and an intellectual who has just as much of an appreciation for the arts as for the sciences. Those who have had the displeasure of suffering prolonged exposure to him would say that he is also a pretentious peacock. Regardless, he is indeed very intelligent; however, it is the kind of intelligence that resulted in him lacking many social skills, as well as basic skills that are easily considered to be elementary. For one, he never learned how to properly tie his shoes; therefore, he avoids ones that have laces.
On a social level, he has never been able to fully connect with other people on an emotional level. He is usually a man more driven by rational thought than emotions, and can often come across to others as either unempathetic or insensitive. He sometimes has a hard time reading other people’s body language. When he was little, he was terribly awkward and angry about it, yet over time, he has adapted as he made a habit of memorizing by route what certain gestures or expressions tend to mean. When it comes to his interests in arts, he is more attracted to realism than abstraction. When looking at art, he has a hard time responding to their emotional concept. Instead, he is more interested in the craftsmanship and technical application of the materials involved. The clarity of a message appeals to him more so than vague and flighty feeelings. For this reason, he is more prone to appreciate classical art, or works of illustration or functional design.
While he has been able to make some friends, he is generally aloof toward most people. He does not have much patience for small talk, and prefers to stick to either pertinent job-related topics, or to speak on matters of scientific discussion. Small talk seems like an unnecessary waste of time. Due to this, he has a non-existent dating life. He is basically married to the job. When it comes to matters of the heart, he tends to come across as more asexual than not. He is hesitant toward dealing with romantic feelings, so when he likes someone, he tends rather to ignore the person than approach. In the end, though, he is possibly bisexual—he can see the aesthetic qualities of both men and women. However, he doesn’t usually like to be touched, and matters of intercourse seems terribly unhygienic. He’s been dragged to strip club with the guys from the security department on a few occasions, and has found the whole experience to be more annoying than exciting.
Due to his attitude and mannerisms, he tends to give off the overly devoted and creepy vibe of a cold-hearted, possibly mad, scientist. However, he is actually a very lawfully minded person. He finds administrative corruption to be irksome, and holds taste for justice. Embittered by the continued corruption and lack of morality amongst those in power, he is somewhat annoyed there is nothing he can directly do about such things. Many times, he was tempted to leak important documents into anti-ShinRa hands; however, he refrained. Two evils do not make a right, and in the end, he only has his own moral code and integrity to hold onto. Additionally, he would be unlikely to leak information to groups like Avalanche. He believes terrorist methods like theirs to be aggregative—that their actions are no better than the counter-measures instigated by ShinRa. They are just as responsible for countless deaths that happed as a result of, and subsequent to, their attacks. Eisler believes that if a person really hates the way ShinRa operates, then they should not go about blowing up company infrastructure and causing collateral damage to innocent parties. What they should do, instead, is work for the company while finding ways to make those changes from within, over time. He believes that if someone has a problem with the way things are run, then they need to stop bellyaching about it like children, and work toward putting themselves in a position to make changes, themselves. If someone has a problem with MAKO power, then they need to find a way to harness alternative energy, or refine the mako energy process itself to be more efficient with less waste. Blowing up reactors solves nothing, and ends up doing more damage than good. In addition to this view, he is not inclined to do something that will so easily get himself incriminated…unless he has a surefire way to ensure that such indiscretions cannot be traced back to him. Mostly though, he keeps his head low, dots his i’s, crosses his ‘t’s, and sticks to procedure. Even if he dislikes corruption, he is a hypocrite who cares more for his own well-being than that of others. He will come to the aid of innocents so long as he is in a position to be able to do something about it, otherwise, he stays out of the way. He’s no hero, and finds such antics to be reckless endangerment to one’s self and others around them.
It can be noted that he is, for the most part, a pacifist. He would like to have the option to look for alternative solutions to altercations before resorting to violence. However, he is not deluded enough to believe violence is always avoidable--there do exist those who cannot be reasoned with. To that end, quick and decisive action may be the only option. However, being a non-combatant, most his knowledge and attitude on such matters stems mostly from philosophical ideals and theory. These are such ideas that may be hard to live up to in practical application, especially living in a place that is run like a military state.
He probably does not notice he comes across to others as a condescending asshole (well, maybe he does… a little). His sense of humour, should he attempt to execute one, tends to manifest as either dry wit or caustic remarks. Miraculously, despite being such a sanctimonious prick, he has managed to make a few friends. How they are able to put up with him, though, is anyone’s guess. The few friends he does have, though, he holds very dear, with esteem and trust.
History:
The son of an engineer contracted by ShinRa’s Weapons Development Department, Eisler was born in Junon. His father was usually an absent presence—either constantly out of town, in the lab located in their home’s basement, at work or otherwise off site. Don’t take this to mean they were estranged, though. They get along well, and have a sort of quiet understanding. Eisler looked up to the man, and knew his father worked hard so that they could have a good home and food on the table. Being a single father is hard--Eisler understood that. While his father was away, Eisler amused himself by reading whatever took his fancy, playing games on his computer, feeding his obese cat, or tinkering with some of the equipment his dad wouldn’t know he’d touched.
He remembers his mother being a nice person, but past that, he has little memories about her. She had died in an accident—a death which his father took hard. His father ended up storing all reminders of his mother away into a boxes in the attic. Aside his father, his biggest parental influence in young life was actually his mother’s sister, Aunt Gertrude—a posh and proper kind of women whom he had never seen without her pencil skirt with white stripes, high heels, and an ostentatious hat. A rich widow left to manage her late husband’s assets, she was both the curator of a museum and patron of the arts. Ever the life of the party, she would often swoop in to drag her darling little nephews (for Eisler had a brother very close to his age) off to Midgar to attend all sorts of philanthropic galas—if only could get the boys dressed up, first. That was the price of their admission; for heavens forbid if her poor and uncultured nephews—his father’s fault, naturally—grew up to become embarrassments to her amidst her socialite friends.
Eisler brother was older than him by almost two years (although with their similarity in appearance, they were often mistaken for twins). They , despite their similarities in appearance, they could not be more different in personality. While Eisler could be considered the brains of the outfit, his brother was the brawn. He took well to sports and atheleticism, and by the age of fifteen, his brother had enlisted into Shinra’s military. Periodically, his brother would send young Eisler emails and texts about his adventures, and was quite proud when he announced his acceptance into the SOLDIER program. His brother had made second class by the time he had turned nineteen. However, his brother's life was cut short far too soon, as he was later Killed In Action during an eco-terrorist attack (although the body had never been found). For this reason, Eisler holds some hostility towards groups like AVALANCHE. He blames them for his brother's death. Despite their differences in interests, and their tendancies to beat on eachother like brothers often do, they were still very close.
Although most Eisler’s young life was spent in Junon, part of his later teenage years were spent in Midgar. Wherein he gained his secondary education at a private academy attended by both rich or gifted children (during which time he took a lot of AP classes). Some of the tuition for such schooling was funded by his aunt, who having never had any children of her own, decided to place all such attention on him. The rest was assisted by scholarship.
After high school, he continued to college. Perhaps due to his Aunt Gertrude’s overbearing influence, he started out perusing the completely frivolous curriculum of Art History of Art and Design coursework at a university in Midgar. However, a predisposition toward meticulous nitpicking and a life-long interest in science eventually steered his artistic pursuits toward its application in Forensic Sciences. Coursework in computer sciences granted him additional speciation in digital forensics, while his interests in printmaking and chemistry gained him a skillset needed for document examination. He carries a degree in Computer Science, a minor in Design, and a Ph.D in Forensic Science.
This background managed to land him a job at ShinRa. Although, when first applying for work, he had wanted to work for the Investigation Sector of the General Affairs Department, that request was denied. Having no real aptitude for combat, and a penitent toward brutal honesty, he just was not what the company was looking for in a special ops agent.
Instead, he ended up working for the Science Department as a lab technician, where he spent most of his time holed away in what felt like a freezing basement. Although technically listed as a member of the Science Department, Eisler was assigned to work as a lab technician on semi-permanent loan to the Department of Public Safety Maintenance—specifically, he worked with a division of the Security Department charged with policing the city of Midgar and it’s surrounding areas. Being a member of the Science Department, he was, ironically, afforded a higher level of security clearance than the standard infantry members of the Security Department. With this clearance, he had access to the lab equipment and state-of-the-art computers needed to run varying analysis tests needed for police investigations.
When not working on case evidence, Eilser often spent time in the material lab, fiddling around to find ways to better integrate meteria capabilities with his gear. One example, he was curious to see if sense material could be infused with sensory technology to further increase the scope, range and accuracy of their readings.
During Meteorfall, he managed to survive through the destruction of ShinRa’s headquarters by the sheer dumb luck of being on a restroom break (and universal fact that during natural disasters and Acts of God, usually it is the toilets that survive). When the dust started to settle, he returned to work for ShinRa like most of the company’s employees.
It is only in recent years, since The Merge, that Eisler gained a transfer into Department of General Affairs Investigation Division, where was assigned to do pretty much what he’s been doing—except with a higher security clearance, more sensitive material, and better pay. Despite being a newly minted Turk, he does not do much field work unless his particular skill set is needed. For the most part, he is a tech who provides support to fieldworkers.
He currently has an apartment somewhere in Edge--hopefully somewhere where Aunt Gertrude will not find him too soon. How she still manages to track find him down, despite his having a completely unlisted phone number and address, he does not know. Not to sound like he hates her or anything—she is his dotting Auntie. Only, she can be a bit too much for his patience.
