So, at E3, Square revealed their still-in-development Luminous Engine, made for next-generation games, with a realtime tech demo. Realtime. This is what gameplay is going to look like. Go watch Agni's Philosophy. RIGHT NOW.I just. I can't. Holy. Shit.

That's gorgeous, but is Square working on that for the PS3/360, or in anticipation for the next new console? D: I'm really hoping for the former - there's so much more that the PS3/360 can do; there's not really a need for a new console in the near future.
(By the way, thanks for reminding me that I still haven't bought XIII for the 360. :< I needs it. Now.)

HIKO! GO BUY IT NOW! It shouldn't cost you more that $15 ish on amazon.
But yeah, I spazzed at this quite hard last night when griever face showed me it. I was assuming it'd be for the existing consoles. Griever also raised the interesting point of "maybe this is why Versus was delayed" and I really fucking hope so. HOW PRETTY!!!
Also, there is part of me that is praying for this to magically become FF XV. *throws self at video*

No, it's for next-gen consoles, meaning PS4 or whatever it's going to be called - but, Kupo, I did find confirmation of what I said about Versus! Apparently, they ARE using parts of Luminous on it, because Nomura wants it to look as "photorealistic" as possible. So in other words, it CAN be applied, at least partially, to what game systems can do now.

Huzzah for using bits of it for the current-gen. Freaking boo on there being a next-gen on the horizon. I just finished watching the Halo 4 trailer - it's gorgeous, and the game comes out in November.
Dear Companies, Stop making new consoles. Your content developers are just now getting to see where your current consoles can take you. Let the developers have more time to find out the limits of your current machines, before you go and make new ones that they'll have to get used to programming for. :<
Sincerely, A broke-ass consumer who just bought her 360.
