Special Skill(s):
Inferno: Using the fire crystal’s power he can call forth flames from his hands that rise up and grow at an alarming rate and soon encircle him in a vicious inferno that leaves the earth scorched and the air dry in its wake yet leave Val unharmed. It is much more powerful than Firaga but the crystal doesn’t allow for its use in immediate succession.
Extra Sense: Since taking the crystal Val has had a sense for other crystals and magic derived there from. If he is near a crystal or material or magicite he can feel it in his body. It grows stronger the closer he is to the source but is too vague at distance to be used for locating them.

- Fire, Fira, Firaga

Appearance:
Val’s features don’t really stand out in a crowd, he’s not ugly but nor is he especially handsome. His eyes are a copper brown shade and his hair is a sandy blonde colour. His features are often hidden beneath the typical red hat he wears, casting his face into shadow. He also wears the usual red cloak associated with Red Mages and about his hip he wears his sword in scabbard. His build speaks of someone who is fit and healthy, well toned and strong to a degree but not freakishly so.
Personality:
Valeo is a master of deceit, he loves to lie, even when he’s being honest. If he isn’t spouting falsehoods with his words he’s misleading with his behaviour and body language. He gets such a kick from pretending to have a different personality from his own he can barely remember who he is at times.
He finds himself growing bored with things very easily though he doesn’t have a short attention span. He’s got a good eye for details, especially when it comes to reading others. After so long working on mastery of his own body language he can easily follow others. Val is determined, hard working and, as long as he’s interested in something, very reliable. That said, as a lover of lies he’s not one who can really be considered trust worthy...
History:
Valeo was born in Pravoka to an average fishing family. As a child he was expected to learn the trade and follow after his parents, and for a time he went about doing as he was told. But the idea of being a fisherman bored him sorely and he would often find a stick and pretend to be some great warrior. He’d fight with other children too, playing monster and warrior until they were called home by parents.
When he accidentally whacked a friend round the head with his “sword” his fun and games were instantly banned and he was scolded for such foolish behaviour. With his favourite past time forbidden he sullenly went back to learning to work the nets. Secretly though, he yearned to be an adventurer; to do something exciting. So he took to lying and sneaking out to practice “swordplay” by himself. The sneaking was his first real taste of lying, something he found surprisingly fun.
If his parents asked him if he was happy he would pretend to be just for the thrill of dishonesty, he found new situations to lie in just for the sake of it. Soon he was pretty good at masking truth and since big lies could be given away by stray body language he grew to be an expert in reading people and, to an extent manipulating them, with his own control over his body language.
Val had been saving up whatever money he could lay his hands on. It took a long time but eventually he had enough to buy his first sword. Then his sneaking of was stepped up. He would leave town when he could slip away and fight small monsters he came upon, building up his skill little by little. By age 15 he was already styling himself as an adventurer, more and more readily disowning the fisherman’s life his parents had intended for him to be.
He was earning money now, taking on slightly bigger monsters and so he decided to invest in a spell tome and see if he had the aptitude for magic. That first spell was fire and it was just the beginning. It seemed he had a natural talent for magic and with a few years of intensive training he donned his red hat and cloak, styling himself a Red Mage for hire. That was when his parents finally understood it all and in turn for his lies and ingratitude he was disowned.
It suited him fine and he spent his adolescence accompanying travellers between towns and defending them from monsters for Gil. But as he grew proficient he also grew bored. It simply was no longer enough to stimulate him, not even pretending to be someone completely different around travellers was making the tedium bearable.
A year before the merge he set out to make something exciting happen, something that would break the endless inertia. He was going to steal the crystals and take their power for his own uses, with such a plan how could he possibly fail to find amusement in an otherwise dull world. His first attempt for a crystal took him to the Ice Cave. He battled his way through monsters and happened upon the fire sword along the way, however, before he reached the crystal he became overwhelmed by the ice monsters and was forced to turn back. If he had not come across the fire sword he might not have made it out alive, instead he managed to escape with some severe wounds to his body and his pride.
He spent several months recovering before he felt strong enough for a second attempt. This time he set out for Mount Gulug. What was so different this time around he could not have said. Perhaps it was just the determination to heal his pride or an increased sense of frustration with the world. Either way he eventually succeeded in reaching and removing the fire crystal. With it he found an increased control over his fire spells but also a few new abilities he could feel pouring from the crystal into himself.
He’d been preparing to head out to the Ice Cave once more when the merge came. Suddenly there was a much wider world filled with new possibilities, the Ice Cave didn’t seem quite so urgent. He went on to explore the world, researching as much as he could after talk of crystals from the other worlds. He was especially interested in the material he’d heard talk of though spheres and corresponding pyreflies were also intriguing.
His current aims include gathering and harnessing the various forms of crystals that seemed to exist within most of the combined worlds. He won’t risk falling back into the old pattern, simply existing. No, he wanted to be a part of the world, to make it more interesting for himself and he could see no better way than his plan and so he began to go about it, behind his various masks of lies and self control.
