So yeah, Final Fantasy X is being remastered in HD for the Playstation 3!!! Also the playstation vita but i've no clue what that is. Super excited as I really really loved that game. I read this on the Squeenix members homepage but they also said no idea if it'll be released for europe yet which is a bummer... Also cbox expired.

I couldn't have said it better. But, seriously now, hasn't there been a lot of fan demand for a FFVII remaster? Sure, it would be technically harder to do, but nobody really seems to care all that much for FFX.

That does not sum it up at all as it is LACKING THE AWESOME HD GOODNESS! But I like the huuuuuuurrrr stuff - it made for a more fun character. My top two games are IX and X (in that order) and i think it may not be coincidental that both of those games have upbeat main characters.
As for the VII remake - i don't think it'll happen for a long time though I do suspect it will happen. Like you said it's gonna be hard to do the whole thing and X is obviously an easy starting point. Maybe this is just the beginning of a project that will go through them ALL for remastery.

I'm not sure they're redoing any rendering for X, anyway. For all we know - from what I've heard, anyway - it could just be a rerelease of the exact same game on blu-ray, which probably lacks the compression that DVDs required to record a game of that scale, leading to the HD quality. So yeah, about a million times easier than entirely remaking a game that would need full new character models, maps, redesigns of every area in the game, new cutscenes, full, new voice acting, and...well, basically everything but a new script. And even that would need to have a lot of major changes, because transitioning a game that old to HD would mean restructuring the entire story to fit with the capabilities of expression, camera angle, and human dialogue, and a lot of subtleties that couldn't be conveyed with the technology of the time. The script just wouldn't sound natural if it followed the original exactly. And you know they wouldn't do it without the dialogue, people would throw a fit about it not getting proper treatment.
IN OTHER WORDS, FUCK YES FFX RERELEASE. And a rerelease of VII at some point would be nice, but I really don't see a reason for comparison, when the scale is completely different.

I see the FFX re-release more akin to, say, FFI & II porting to the PSP. The graphics are all going to stay reasonably the same, but with minor tweaks here or there to improve the overall look and feel, as the hardware can handle it better.
And here's where I ask why the hell VI hasn't been ported yet, while X gets a friggin' HD release. D<

V and VI are both available on the PSNetwork now. Though I think VI is only available for PS3 whereas V is available for PS3 and PSP. Griever you obviously hit the sensible answer nail on the head there... but still - HD!!!!! So happy!

Though this wasn't my favorite game (it only warranted a replay due to getting all the @$#%ing Al Behd primers and missing Anima), I do hope the remaster's better than the original- particularly in VA and pronunciation (Tee-dus as it is in Dissidia is correct, where Tie-dus is kludged). Re-recording parts of dialogue shouldn't be too difficult, as they've gotten the VAs in to do things like Dissidia and KH. DVD format can handle up to 17gb of information where Blu-ray can handle up to 50gb of information, so there's a lot of room for them to tweak graphics and since there wasn't as much extra content as in VII, they should be able to keep it intact. While a VII remake would be nice, SE had stated in the past that there would be a lot that would be left out in order to save production time/money that SE doesn't have. You'd lose most (if not all) of your minigames (Bye-bye Gold Saucer games) and many side quests. I'd personally be happy if they just upped the graphics to VIII's quality to lose the chunky polygons. But, I value story and gameplay over "omg it looks so real." That's my two cents anyway ^^;

Slightly confused about the problems with X o__o Tidus' name was never spoken in X or X-2, not once, because he could be renamed. The only game that effed up the pronunciation was Kingdom Hearts II, where Selphie said it. For that matter, in all the interviews and stuff with the cast of X, they pronounce it Tee-dus.

Blah, realize I didn't make that clear. It was with reviewers mainly. Various internet and TV reviewers constantly mispronounce anything not of English origin ( Spoony's an example, though I find him funny). -.o Just something with this country, I guess. It's been a good 10 years since I've played the game too. edit- Don't recommend watching the review if you're a big fan of the game!

Please please tell me FFX hasn't been out for 10 years... I refuse to be that old...
Also interesting fact. 10 is still square soft whilst 10-2 is actually sqeenix...

Release in Dec. 2001 (NA); so almost 10 years (I'm realizing I shouldn't type when sick/tired because I end up looking like an idiot), which is why they're remastering it- for that anniversary. Even though it'll be late... Why they've not done the same for other games is anyone's guess. Miss the Squaresoft days.

Yep, Kupo, it's that old. And Kingdom Hearts came out at around the same time, so it's about 10 years old too. WE ARE THAT OLD.

I DON'T WANNA BE THAT OLD... X was the first game that got me into gaming (though I prefered IX it wasn't the game that hooked me I want to be one of those people who are like "FFX, I was like 5 when that came out..." FML
