Special Skill(s): Does the ability to constantly look awesome count? Besides that, Yuj is a capable Cocoon hoverbike pilot.
Magic: None
Summon: None
Appearance: Tall, thin, and with a love of fashion that gives him a very flamboyant style, Yuj would be extremely difficult to miss in a crowd. His hair is a bright blue, layered shorter at the top and falling to his chest at the bottom, and his eyes are gold. His shirt is a vibrant orange, a little lighter at the bottom than the top, which laces on one side; over this he wears an elaborate jacket, ribbed white at the bottom and sides, black and pink on top, and trimmed with grey. Long pink sleeves cover his arms, covered at his right wrist with a brown band encircled by a glowing green bracelet, and a silver pendant hangs from a braided cord around his neck. His pants are tight-fitting and made of leather, his waist covered on one side by the longer portion of his asymmetrical shirt, and on the other by a band of fringed cloth ornamented with feathers and wooden beads that hangs from an off-white belt. Knee-high, lacing boots complete the outfit, with wide, decorative panels at their tops.
Personality: Overall a laid-back, even tempered young man, Yuj is most at ease when lounging in NORA's cafe. In the face of Snow's sometimes overeager attitude and Maqui's timidity, he offers a grounding calmness to the group. He isn't quite so eager for battle as the leaders, but while his courage may not be so strong, his ability to keep his cool under pressure is an invaluable trait that allows him to fight alongside the best of them, and when necessary, to take charge in difficult situations. Though he sometimes has doubts, he knows how to put them aside when it really counts.
History: Born and raised in Bodhum, Yuj's life was a fairly simple one through his youth - adventure meant the yearly fireworks or the trips with his mother to Eden that sparked his trademark aesthetic sense, and danger was nearly nonexistent. And then he met NORA. Becoming fast friends with the then-small group, he found himself a member before he knew it, and suddenly it seemed he was constantly chasing monsters outside of town (when he wasn't the one being chased) or sitting around in the cafe they opened to fund their little endeavors.
From then on, NORA was his life. The good times far outweighed the bad. Sure, there were occasions when he found himself overwhelmed by a pack of monsters - usually with Maqui somewhere behind him insisting they were going to die - but those were rare, and he could always count on one of the others to come along and help.
Then he was 19, and it was summer, and the fireworks were lighting up the sky. Snow was going to marry Serah, he'd been fretting about it whenever she wasn't around for weeks. Business in the cafe was at its peak, thanks to the tourists. And just outside town, unknown to the content residents and the mass of tourists, the PSICOM soldiers had found a Pulse fal'Cie.
Life went to hell. They were thrown aboard a Purge train and told they were about to be sent down to Pulse, "for the good of Cocoon". Like they weren't even part of Cocoon anymore. And for what, because of some Pulse Vestige that had been sitting outside of their home for centuries? Well, Sanctum picked the wrong town to throw to a massacre. NORA wasn't going to take that laying down.
They fought back. They couldn't save everyone, and the losses were hard to take, but they fought with everything they had. During the chaos, Snow went off after Serah; on top of it all, she'd been trapped inside the Vestige, and with him gone, the rest of them took charge. It was a long, hard fight, with the Sanctum army far outnumbering them, but Bodhum's people and the tourists that unwittingly got tossed into the mess were fighting for their lives, and that gave them strength. Eventually, they managed to get away, and NORA was charged with keeping them safe. Good thing they'd fought all those monsters, back home.
Later, things were happening in Eden, big things. NORA went there, saw firsthand as their leader became the hero of the race and subsequently, with his usual carelessness, let the whole world know he was a Pulse l'Cie. Enemy of Cocoon. But the rest of them were enemies of Cocoon themselves, by that logic, weren't they? So they did what they could to help him, and then they went to work organizing the evacuation of the city and the fight against the Pulse monsters that ran through the streets.
Cocoon's shell cracked. Their home fell. Bodhum was gone completely, and with it, everything familiar. But they'd survived, somehow, them and Snow and Serah, and that was what mattered most, wasn't it? They rebuilt Bodhum on Pulse, and finally, after a while, things went back to normal, more or less. Lebreau was running the cafe again, Maqui was off playing mechanic, and he settled in with a drink with Gadot, when they weren't running off after some Pulse wolf or something. NORA grew, as was necessary for the defense of their new home, and before long Yuj saw himself with a team of his own to command in their regular patrols of the area.
Normalcy didn't last. A year later, the Merge happened. Once again, they found the world thrown into chaos, but suddenly, the world was so much bigger. Snow left, and NORA...NORA still had to make their priority keeping the town safe, right?
Of course it mattered to Yuj. It was the most important thing. But the world, the whole world was different, and he wanted to see it. So he left New Bodhum behind and he set out - to where, he didn't know. But he'd figure it out, once he knew what was out there.
