Just where the hell was she?
The question plagued him as he knelt before the cheerful yellow flowers in the run down church in the ruins of Midgar. She had been here, or at least she claimed to have been in her letter. Maybe she had grown tired of waiting around for him and moved on. The thought was upsetting, not because he was insulted she'd gone, but because he'd come to this horrible skeleton of a city for nothing. If she'd been here, or even if coming here had drawn him closer to finding her, there would be no hard feelings about coming back to a place with such bitter-sweet memories. It appeared, however, that he'd simply put himself in a place he didn't want to be for no real reason. It was an annoying situation as he knew if he hadn't come he'd have never forgive himself and missing a slim chance of finding her.
Where the hell are you, Aerith? He thought to himself once more.
He rose to his feet, placed his hands on his lower back and arched it, an action which resulted in a few satisfying cracks and a long sigh. He walked slowly out of the dilapidated church with a pensive look on his face. He was pondering where to go now. He could stay around here, search Edge and hope she was still in the area. After all her letter had given him the impression it wasn't written long ago. Though, if he was wrong he would waste his time looking here and miss his chance at finding her elsewhere. What a dilemma. He thought about it over and over in his head, trying to guess where he'd go if he were in Aerith's shoes.
Maybe he should just see if any of his other friends were here in the city that had risen from the ashes of a past age. That age had been so Mako obsessed it had almost cost them the planet. Then again it had given him, and all of his former comrades in SOLDIER their unmatched strength. He'd seen it's effects on those weak of mind first hand too. He remembered how Cloud had been catatonic for so long after his exposure at the hands of Hojo.
Now there was a man he'd like to meet again. Give him a piece of his own medicine. Him and the president of ShinRa and everyone else who had caused the problems of that age and turned his life upside down. He knew he would regret visiting Midgar so soon. The memories it stirred made him angry and at the same time concerned. He couldn't help think that Sephiroth would come back the same way he had and with the same twisted motivations as he had previously had. There had to be more like him in the world too, now that it was suddenly a bigger place. Where there really enough people who could prevent the nutjobs and bad guys from getting their way?
Zack was so consumed with his thoughts that he didn't notice he was already in Edge nor did he spot the woman walking towards him. At least not until they collided with one another with a thud.
"I'm so sorry," he stammered, throwing his hands up apologetically. "Please excuse me."
(ooc - Not quite sure where you can go with this but I suck at starting threads. I swear they'll get better as we go!)
