The roar of the crowd was deafening, Vyrl almost cringed at its's sound, his thoughts lost amongst the tumult. Blitzball the one thing that had always held spira together before it had been ripped apart and reformed with the rest of the worlds in the merge. Vyrl had arrived in Luca just earlier that day and if he had believed in Yevon he would have given praise at his luck to arrive on the day of a game. The game had just ended in victory for the Auroch's. Just the thought of a victory for the Aurochs caused him to burst into laughter. Only a year or two ago the Aurochs had been the worst of the worst till that Tidus had fixed 'em up to be a fightin' team, of course the poor guy wasn't here for the game today it was just the original's.
The shadow of the exit arch fell away behind him as he left the stadium, smoke curling up from the cigarette situated in his lips, a bad habit he had picked up since the merge. Noone had been able to pinpoint which world brought it but it was there nonetheless, a vice among vices. With so many heroes spread over the world now, demand for his services had decreased somewhat lately. He had decided the best course of action would be to head to the mixing pot of the only world he used to know. It used to be that he couldn't be in Luca for a day or two before he was off on another job. Despite the hatred that still lingered towards his people the Al Bhed amongst the people of Spira he had earned himself a good enough name to be trusted in this place.
The doorman tipped his hat in a polite greeting and Vyrl lowered his head in return as he entered the sports bar in the square. If there was word of someone looking for a guardian of sorts this is where he would pick up on it for the small price of a few drinks. He greased the pot with a glass of the local ale and made some small talk with the bartender, an old friend of his. He knew better than to bug Vyrl about his lack of shirt in the establishment, it was normal of Vyrl to walk around dressed in such a matter. His button-up hung like a white tail from the back pocket of his fitted jeans, waiting to be worn when the time called for the need.

((ooc - Hope you don't mind me jumping on in!))
Lightning strode confidently from the chocobo powered ship that had carried her to the large metropolis that is Luca from Bodhum. She could looked around at the city with a slightly curious expression as the sea breeze tossled her pink lockes about her face. It was not the size of Luca that was so interesting to the former soldier, yes it was big but nothing as grand as Eden. No, it was the style of the buildings, especially the huge stadium before her that caught her attention. The air was filled with the sounds of people, there were traders at the docks selling their wares, ship-hands loading and unloading cargo and most dominantly the sound of the crowd within the stadium. She'd heard talk on the ship of the sport they played here - blitzball. The idea of a game played in the water and as violently as the passengers had described intrigued her but not enough to warrant her lingering within the stadium.
Instead she made her way to the ring shaped pathway that circled the stadium and began to make her way towards the city itself. She had caught glimpses of Luca from the ship as the approached the dock and it looked promising. There was such a variety of people here most of whom were indistinguishable as from one world or the next and some who's appearances where rather strange. She saw a group of tall, blue feline-like people all dressed in the same uniform emerging from what she assumed were the underground locker rooms at the front of the stadium. They must have been one of the blitzball teams and Lightning found her gaze lingering on the horns that crowned their foreheads. Such a strange looking race, she thought to herself as she continued on her way.
She was heading out into the city with the intention of finding out something about what caused the world to merge. She'd been asking questions on the voyage from Bodhum but it seemed that none of the rumours or speculations matched each other. Everyone had different idea's about why and how it had happened and it was impossible to rely on any of the information she had gathered thus far. Lightning believed that she ought to head somewhere more populated, somewhere not of Pulse or Cocoon but a place that had come from one of the other worlds were information might be easier to find. She came to a small square, her cape swishing gentley with each step she took, and noticed a bar. In a place she knew nothing of there was no better place to start her quest for information and without hesitation she made her way in.
The bar was reasonably busy with just as much variety of people as there had been outside. She made her way to the bar and ordered a drink before taking an unoccupied bar stool next to a shirtless man with glorious blonde hair. She considered how to make conversation here as she waited for the bar tender to fetch her drink. She could ask bluntly in the manner she prefered but it was easier to get people talking with a degree of friendliness. Then again she was never good at small talk. At length she addressed the man seated next to her.
"So... are you from around here?" her voice was calm but a note of awkwardness was present. She was no good at talking to people she didn't know in this kind of way. Throughout her asking of the question her eyes remained fixed on the glass before her where they lingered as she waited for a reply.

(( Haha of course not, I was waiting for someone to join in. ))
He had worked past his first drink now, and was halfway through his second, the warmth spreading evenly through his abdomen. He had long since ceased the pointless smalltalk he had been making with the bartender as the poor man had other patrons and duties he needed to attend to. Vyrl had mostly kept his ears open and his eyes wandering for the past little bit. Information truly was a valuable commodity, not something that could be obtained for free it seemed. At one point he heard a young Rabanstran man, visiting Luca from the city of his origin, talking about a local mark but alas when he had engaged the man he had learned it was not a very dangerous one and he had disengaged from that conversation.
Vyrl was just mulling over the idea of leaving the little bar and trying another area of Luca, possibly the upraised platforms leading to the highroad when a lady walked in. Vyrl was somewhat of an accomplished reader of people and he noticed two things immediatly that caught his attention. The first one being her pale pink locks, not a colour commonly seen from the lands he was from or most of the worlds really, meaning she was probably from far away. The second being the combination of the sword hanging at her waist and the confident graceful way in which she held her posture and stance, signifying to him that she was probably a seasoned fighter. Vyrl could not help but let out a small chuckle at the irony, here he was looking for the demand to apply his skills when the opportunity found him and walked right in the door.
Being the outspoken person he was normally Vyrl would have been the one to engage the object of his interest in conversation but seeing the ladies obvious hesitation and awkwardness his playful side won through. He waited enjoying a private laugh everytime she seemed to find a way to start the conversation, just as he was about to open his mouth and save her from her misery she beat him to it.
" Well it really depends on what you mean. I call the world of this cities origin my home, but my real home is vyn, vyn yfyo. " He gave the woman a short appraising look before continuing. " Let my buy you a drink, belle. "
Vyrl raised his one hand casually in the air and the bartender nodded his head in recognition bringing over another large glass of the drink Vyrl himself was sipping on, while the pair of them waited for the bartender Vyrl continued. " Normally people come here for the Blitz, the Sphere Break, or the easy fun. Which brings you ? " Every word out of Vyrls mouth was soaked in the same content amusement that sparkled deep in the swirling greens of his eyes.

Lightning rested her hands on the wooden surface before her and listened as he went on to reply. Naturally, she was confused by the words "vyn, vyn yfyo" as she had thus far had no contact with the Albed and was unaware of their existance let alone language and culture. and decided she would ask him about it after she had the information she wanted from him but as he gave her a little smile she allowed a small look of confusion to form.
She opened her mouth to decline his offer of a drink but she had no time to get a word out before he had ordered it. She'd have told the bartender not to bother and politely explain she'd rather not have another drink but now she was mulling over his use of the word "Belle" and how it had irritated her. A slight frown caused her eyebrows to crease. "Um... thanks," she said biting her tongue to prevent herself going any further. It was no big deal after all and she'd rather hear his what he had to say than bite his head off.
By "blitz" she presumed he meant blitzball but sphere break was also lost on her as, it seems, was the idea of just relaxing and having fun. She had been reasonably happy after the events of two years ago - especially having gotten Serah back but more recently she couldn't get rid of the paranoid tension building in her gut. This merge was so strange and so powerful that it unsettled her to her core. The amusement that dripped from his voice was mildly annoying given Light's current mood but she did her best to ignore it and remain friendly. She just couldn't understand why no-one else seemed so concerned by these events.
"I'm not here for any of that," she began plainly before sipping at her fresh drink. "No, I'm here to find out why the worlds have come together." She saw no reason to hesitate in telling him her motives. "May I ask you a question?" she asked pausing for a response before continuing. "What did you mean by "vyn, vyn yfyo"" Her pronounciation was a little off as she was merely imitating the sounds he had made earlier.

As per normal Vyrl noticed how his overly upbeat persona could wear away at a person and once again as per normal he made no effort to tone it down. It was also painfully obvious now to Vyrl that she had never seen an Al Bhed or heard one speak their natural tongue before. It was mostly her puzzlement over the language that really made him chuckle, he had always been in the habit of mixing together Al Bhed and what seemed to be referred to as English by the rest of the world. It had gotten even better after the merge, many other different languages and different dialects of those languages and even English has been brought together as a result of the merge, he now had even more material with which to use in his wordplay.
Vahrielle relaxed back in his chair to sip his drink, watching the strangeness of his own mannerisms wash over her, watching her awkwardness turn to puzzlement and almost irritation. The mention of the merge however brought him out of his merry reverie, she had struck one of the few chords that harmonized far deeper within him than the smiles and laughs. He did not think on it often but when he did he put aside a large portion of his time for the musing. It had happened suddenly and too easily, most would bat it aside classifying it as a natural thing that had to happen eventually, personally Vyrl did not subscribe to that school of thought. It bothered him to much that the dangers of a dozen different worlds had been brought upon the citizen's of his Spira, as he often though of it, at a time where most misery had been dealt with and swept away in his lands. This musing of his flashed physically across his face as a droop of his smile and a deadening of the sparkle in his eyes at her mention of the thing. Catching himself it was soon remedied and he switched the chain of his thoughts back to her questioning of his language ignoring the deeper problems.
With a hearty chuckle he began. " Vyn vyn yfyo translates to far far away. In the world of Spira there are a few different races, Humes as you would probably call them are the regular bread and butter, Ronso which are the gargantuan blue cat-people although you wouldn't want one to hear you call it that, Guado which you probably haven't seen are the lanky blue-haired people, and the Al Bhed which I am. There are a bunch more but you probably haven't seen them so they're not worth mentioning. " Vyrl took a break here from his explanation to take a long draw from his drink and to nudge hers over toward her. He also reached into his left jean pocket and pulled out a rectangular pack from which he draw a cigarette and placed it in his mouth. With a snap of his finger a small flame appeared at the tip and died away to a small glow.
A puff off his cigarette and he continued. " You can tell us Al Bhed by our beautiful blonde hair. " At this he gave a dramatic flip of his own oddly cut blonde hair and laughed. " And our eyes, if you take a look you can see the pupils are a spiral instead of a plain black dot and the eyes are almost always green. Also as you so gracefully pointed out we have our own language. "
Vyrl drained the last bit of liquid from his glass before setting it on the counter. His smile widened as he launched into an overly exaggerated ' poet's ' version of the Al Bhed accent. " Dra behg-ryenat kuttacc cedc yd dra pyn uv dra maccan vumgc ekhunehk ran tnehg du dra lrykneh uv dra pyndahtan yht ran tycrehk lusbyho. "

Lightning watched his reaction to her mention of the merge with curiousity. He seemed distant and pensive all of a sudden in a manner that reminded her of someone recalling the death of a loved one. Perhaps she had struck the wrong kind of chord here and something terrible in his past was connected with the merge. Her following question snapped him out of this and with a chuckle he seemed to wipe away any other emotion he had felt. It was difficult to imagine his cheery face so sullen, yet the image was imprinted in her as something quite tragic. She wasn't the kind of person who had the patience for mindless optimism but she didn't resent happy people. She thought back to Snow, who always had an answer for everything, and the one situation she'd seen him in without hope. It was heartbreaking to see someones nature so broken.
She let her own frown dissolve into a softer expression as he explained to her about Spira. His explaination was unbidden but not unappreciated as he went on to answer a myriad of questions that occurred to her since arriving in this foriegn city. In response to him nudging the drink at her she raised the glass to her lips and swigged more enthusiastically. She realised she was being rather rude and she now had the similarity between this guy and Snow stuck in her head she thought she'd at least give him a chance. Light watched him with a raised eyebrow as he brought the cigarette to his mouth and lit it. She had seen them around since the merge and found the stench of their smoke to be enough of a reason not to try them.
When he mentioned his eye's Lightning allowed herself to glance into his fascinating green orbs. Until he pointed it out the odd spiral in his eyes had gone unnoticed. She had never seen anything like it in Cocoon, on Gran Pulse, infact, she had seen nothing of the sort since the merge either. It was rather strange but no more so that the Ronso she had witnessed. Nothing could really be considered strange anymore, now that she thought about it. The merge was strange but the results of something like that could only be expected to mirror it's abnormal nature. She drew from her glass again as he spoke his language, oblivious to his charm and to his referance to her as a goddess.
She smiled politely when he had finished. That's interesting," she said plainly, unsure of anything more appropriate to say. "I'm Lightning," she began. "I come from a place called Cocoon but I'm trying to find out what caused the merge. It is... unnatural, to say the least," she explained, her voice taking on a slightly more serious tone now.

Vyrl had drained the last bit of dark liquid from the bottom of his glass by the time she was done speaking, a light rosy glow had warmed his cheeks slowly over the past little bit he was obviously no stranger to the tavern. Once or twice the bartender yelled an obscenity at him for absentmindedly ashing his cigarette on the floor of his establishment. He enjoyed being able to speak his peoples language without quite so many of the negative stares from the patrons all around him, for that he only had Yuna and her extraordinary companions to thank for that, bringing to light the lies of the church of yevon that he and the rest of his people had always suspected.
Vyrl crushed out the remainders of his cigarette in the ashtray provided at the bar before speaking. " Cocoon, Cocoon, cocoon... Hmm. I can't say I've had the pleasure of traveling through your lands yet. I've heard word of it though, where God's both bless and curse their chosen among their people. Of course it was a Guado I'd heard it from, always making everything sound so dramatic. "
His smile faltered a small amount once again in hearing her refer to the merge, but on a barely noticeable level he didn't dwell on thoughts of it this time and knew he probably would not be able to divert her from talking about it. This was however the best chance he had been given to maybe answer his questions on the merge. He couldnt quite place it but there was something about the girl that made him believe that she got results and that was just what he needed. " The merge hit Spira at the most peaceful time we'd possibly ever seen. Brought the problems of other worlds here... Ah well. You did however come to a good place in your search however. Luca is a great place for picking up information and of course you got even more lucky and ran into me. "
Vyrl rose from his seat and gave a half-hearted bow. " I'm Vahrielle Dhyskolia. Guardian of some renown, you could find no better person to offer assistance. "

Lightning had been working on her temper somewhat following the events of two years ago and, although the Albed's habit of flicking his cigarette ash onto the floor was irritating, she was doing a good job of ignoring it and the irrate response from the bar tender. He seemed to guzzle his drink away in no time at all and Lightning's keen eyes for detail didn't miss the hearty glow that his cheeks now radiated. She couldn't help wondering if he was just a rambling drunk on his way to being completely intoxicated but something about his demeanour reassured her that he was a capable person. Maybe it was the sword at his side or something more subtle in his personality but whatever it was it made her feel somewhat at ease and push away her previous concern. By no means did she feel like she could trust her life to this man but certainly sharing her worries openly did not phase her.
She brushed a stray strand of her pink hair away from her eyes before raising her own glass to her delicate lips. Maybe her current comfort was in fact the liquid she was consuming. She pondered this as the warm feeling spread through her. Lightning was quite taken aback by his reference to the Gods of Cocoon. The fal'Cie. Her hand subconciously went to her chest and rested over the scorched white mark that was concealed by her clothing. "The Gods of Cocoon, as you call them, never blessed anyone or anything," she replied at length, almost curtly. The notion that the crystal stasis was a blessing was ridiculous. the only blessing that came to the l'Cie was the moment when the stasis ended. Thinking about the fal'Cie still got her rattled up when she remembered how she had been completely dependent on them, just like every other manipulated citizen of Cocoon.
She was so caught up in these memories she barely noticed the brief flicker in his countenance but roused herself to listen to his talk of Spira being so peaceful and having that shattered by the eerieness of the merge. It was the same back home and elsewhere, she presumed. "It was the same for the people of Cocoon. They had just thrown of the shackles of the fal'Cie and begun to settle into their freedom and independance when this happened. New people - new problems. It's just not f-... I- I need to know why the merge took place. I need to know what the new threats are before they become apparent on their own."
Vahrielle Dhyskolia. She repeated this in her head, mimicing his pronounciation. She was a little confused as to where he got the idea she was actually seeking his assistance and was about to dismiss the notion. "I don't know what assistance you intend to give me but any information you have about the merge would be greatly appreciated," she responded plainly. The truth was that she had set out on this search without any real idea of where to start or even what she was looking for. She had convinced herself that there was some evil mingled in all this and was assured of this by the mention of fal'Cie in a town as foreign as this one. Maybe they existed still, pulling the strings of their puppets from unseen corners of the new world. It was worrying and Lightning was deeply concerned.

Vyrl remained standing after his introduction listening to Ligtning, it did not surprise him one bit that the merge had come about at a peacefull time in her world as well it seemed to be a common thing shared amongst the worlds. For a moment Vyrl felt as if he had made an important discovery about the merge but of course it was drowned away as quickly as it came by the alchohol. Thiis was no new thing for Vyrl he often sought his refuge in a bottle, there were too many moments in his memory and too many feelings he wished he could bury down beyond his reach. He shook his head quickly side to side to clear it. His eyes caught the girls movement, her hand moving over her chest. If he had known anything about the fal'Cie he would have been able to infer that she had been marked by them. He had no knowledge of the marks however so he put the observation away in the back of his head where he could make some use of it after the alchohol's mist had cleared away.
Before opening his mouth to speak Vahrielle once again waved down the bartender and gave him a small handful of coins from his pocket to pay for the drinks. " Well Light. Can I call you that ? You can just call me Vyrl. I do have one small piece of information I picked up from a few of those SeeD mercenaries. I could share it with you but it means I'm coming with you. I may be able to call a few favours in even from some of the Psyches here in town. We could borrow one of their ships for the right price. We Al Bhed are known for our mechanical prowess. " The last statement was accented with a crooked smile and an overly dramatic flip of his golden lockes.
He left her standing by the bar momentarily not even waiting for an answer as he poked his head outside the bar. His deep green eyes scanned the plaza looking fhr the tell-tale blonde hair of one of his Al Bhed brothers outside. Seeing none he let out a sigh and cmae back into the bar. He plopped down on one of the barstools finally awaiting an answer from her. Truth be told she had set his mind by now. He had been debating internally fora while now to follow the clues he had picked up but hadn't been able to muster the drive to do it.

Lightning's eyebrow twitched at the shortened version of her name. She didn't hate being called Light and in fact it made her think rather fondly back to Hope. He was not the only one to address her that way but it was the young boy who sprung to mind. What irritated her was the fact people tended to call her what ever the hell they pleased - whether or not she opposed to it. She opened her mouth to explain this to him but she couldn't get a word in before he'd continued with his fast-paced talk about merceneries and Psyches. It was all a little hard to follow but she was able to discern that the Psyches were Al Bhed and could get them a ship. She was not aware that the Psyches were a Bliztball team and was concerned that this man wanted to introduce her to some insane people.
Once again the caped woman opened her mouth to protest but once again she found herself too late to say anything. She stared after him as he went to the exit and stuck his head out the door. Feeling frustrated she turned back to the bar and gulped away the last of her drink. The alcohol had a warming effect but she was still clear headed. She was perplexed as to how he could seem this drunk having consumed so little but then she remembered that he had been in the bar before she arrived. For all she knew he could have been in here all day, knocking this stuff back. When at last he returned she waited a moment, seeing if he would cut her off again or if he was actually prepared to listen to her response this time.
"Look," she began, allowing her voice to be slightly sterner than it had been until now. "I appreciate you're offer of help, and I'll even give you a payment for your information if you'd like, but I don't even know where I'm going next. I'll be fine on my own." The truth was she was a little insulted. She could more than take care of herself and is offer seemed, to her at any rate, to imply that she needed someone to go along with her. It's not that she didn't want the company, she was genuinly quite relaxed about this guy, it was part of the way he'd insisted on coming with her. Lightning was not the kind of person to be backed into a corner like this and if push came to shove she would rather beat the information out of him than be blackmailed - even if it was in good spirits.
If he really pushed it she wasn't sure she could be bothered to whip his ass, now that she thought about it. He had that look of a seasoned fighter about him and would likely take a fair amount of effort to best. She was an independant person. She had been ever since her parents died but she had learnt the importance of friendship and teamwork. Maybe having him along wouldn't be so bad but then again she ahd only just met the man and he appeared to be drunk. How did she know if she could trust him.

Vyrl could see the woman was rather hesitant on accepting his help, Vyrl wasn't normally one to take no for an answer though. He'd always been a rather focused person when it really came down to it. He saw in his head the potential to answer the question's he had and the first goal he had been able to put his efforts to since the times of Sin that now lay in Spira's past. Vyrl had always said that your not actually living unless your living for a purpouse, the results of the small moments of clarity and insight that came about him once in a blue moon. He had already figured out a way to get her to agree and it seemed he'd have to use it now.
" Oh... Well I guess it's too bad your stuck with me. You wanna know more about the merge, I've got what you need. A sphere. I have it back in my room, it's suppose to have recorded on it the reformation of a large group of people as seems to happen alot lately. See the only problem with it is it's damaged. Whish is where I come in. Us Al Bhed are renowned for our technical prowess. Now I don't have much of that prowess persay but I do know people that might. " He had been absentmindedly tapping his fingers on the bartop as he spoke, his smile widened as he pushed her further and further into a metaphorical corner.
" I've got something you want. You've got something I want. We've got ourselves a feh-feh cediydeuh here now don't we. Now what do you say my mysterious pink-haired friend, off to go grap that ship or what. " From a sack on his waist Vyrl produced what seemed like a set of metal armguards although there was a large dark slot in the front of them. He fastened them to his forearms as he spoke. The act seemed second nature to him, he didn't have to look down once to fasten any of the straps and such that held it to his forearm.
(( Also crap sorry =[ ))

Lightning's eyebrows creased into a frown as the young man announced that she was stuck with him and it was probably an effect of the alcohol that stopped her rising and showing him exactly why he was wrong. As he went on to explain she was glad she hadn't just tanned his hide. She'd heard of spheres from people on the voyage from Bodhum, devices that could record images and play them back. The fact that he claimed to have one of these in his possession that could potentially shed some light on the whole situation was enough to warrant staying with him for a while at least. She could just steal it from him later but she wasn't that kind of person.
"Tsk, I guess we have a deal then. We'll help each other out and get to the bottom of all this," she submitted. Whatever way she looked at this she was indeed stuck with him. She tried to look at the bright side, two heads were better than one and working as a team was more likely to yeild results in thier search for answers. Surely in this new, vast world these two were not the only people seeking to know the reasons for the merge. She watched him fastening on his armguards with mild curiousity - clearly he was no stranger to adventure nor to the monsters that roamed the lands.
"Let's get a move on. First stop your room to collect the sphere, then on to your kinfolk," she said whilst rising to her feet. It was her turn to lead this time, something she had a knack for, as she strode towards the door in the same confident way she had come in. As she stepped outside into the warm light of the sun she held the door for the Al Bhed who followed. There was no point leading him here as she did not know the way around. Already she was relient on his knowledge of this city. It seemed their partnership would indeed prove useful.
"Tell me," she began, turning to him as they made their way from the bar into the streets of Luca. "Why are you so set on coming with me? I can see clearly what you have that I need but I don't understand what I have that you could want. Please, enlighten me." The more she thought about it the less he seemed to be getting out of this deal. He was evidently capable of looking after himself so it wasn't a safety in numbers outlook nor was it for her information because quite frankly she had none. She wasn't complaining though, afterall he was going to assist her for what seemed like no reason but she was going to be spending a fair bit of time with him so it seemed appropriate to ask.

Aha ! Results he had wanted and results he got. She had agreed to come along with him just as he thought she would. He had lied about having the sphere back in his room, he hadn't even gotten one yet, just arriving in the city earlier that day. He knew from experience however to be careful at the least, and the sphere did however seem to have some very important information. He never knew when a spherehunter would be lurking around somewhere near, and they would do what they could do grab up a sphere like this one. He gave her a large victorious smile and followed her out of the bar.
He nodded his thanks and walked out into the light outside of the bar. His shirt was out from being tucked into his back pocket and he threw it on quickly not bothering to smooth the wrinkles or button the white shirt up. Once in the plaza he once again swept his eyes over the surroundings and was rewarded this time with a glimpse of the Al Bhed's red uniforms in the see of people. He tapped Lightning on the shoulder to get her attention before pointing to the man. Making sure she followed behind him he wove in and out of the crowds of people till he met up with him. He ran up beside the guy and tapped him on the shoulder the same way he had lightning.
"Rao ! Eigar ! kuut kysa un fryd ? Dryd sphere shot pmaf so seht. E haat y vyjuin vnus oui, oui ufa sa, oui ghuf oui tu. Sa yht so lusbyheuh rana, Lightning, fa haat du punnuf uha uv oui kio'c puydc. " He conversed with the man obviously asking about borrowing a bout from the man as he had said earlier. He would have conversed with the man in english for Lightning's sake but sadly Eigar knew very very little english.
