Appearance: Despite being a bit of a blue-eyed-pretty-boy, Reno’s got a freakin’ mullet that makes him look like David Bowie’s red-headed step-child. He’s also a south-paw. Reno has gotten into the habit of wearing his goggles on his forehead, because he thinks it makes him look like a bad-ass. To maintain that look, he also doesn’t bother to tuck in his white shirt or get his black suit pressed. As for his tie?—ya don’t want to know what he did with that, yo. He also has symmetrical tattoos on his face, in form of red stripes, as well as a pierced let ear. For choice of weapon, he tends to use a nightstick with a taser on end.
Personality: Generally laid back and amicable to gossip, he tends to present an approachable and friendly face—if a bit of a rebellious punk with a devil-may-care attitude. While Reno come across as a lazy bastard, but he really just lives by the efficient procrastinator’s philosophy of “work smarter, not harder.” Get things done right on the first go, and you don’t have to waste any more time on it than needed. Reno is exceptionally talented at what he does--when he gets around to doing it--and knows it with all his cocksure attitude. For all his outwardly friendliness, under the surface, he carried a darker side steeped in cynicism with wrought with sadistic violence. Overall, he’s a sly and sneaky bastard who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Wetwork is no skin of his back.
History: A slight bit of a pikey in his youth, Reno’s originated from the underbelly of Midgar as a lyin’, cheatin’, stealin’ slum rat—and a rather sly and sneaky one at that…but not as sneaky and sly as he thought, for he’d landed himself in juvie on more than one occasion. Sooner than later, his punk-assed, bad-assatude caught the attention of ShinRa’s Turks. Fortunately, for Reno, rather than being eighty-sixed or jailed, he was recruited into the company and made a Turk, himself. Call it a deal brokered for freedom from prison in exchange for his loyal servitude to ShinRa.
In his early years with the Turks, he was mostly used as a support agent for other Turks, often getting is ass handed to him in the process. One such butt-kicking was meted out by Avalanche’s Shears during a mission in which Reno and another Turk were sent to prevent the bombing of a Mako Reactor. He managed to make up for this blunder by successfully helping President Shinra escape from an Avalanche’s attack on the boss’s hotel room during a conference--although, it should me mentioned that the Sister Ray did managed to get itself hijacked in the interim. In response to Avalanche’s treat to use the Sister Ray to destroy Midgar, Reno led a counter-strike team of ShinRa troops to distract Avalanche’s silders while other Turks moved to reclaim and deactivate the Sister Ray. After which, SOLDIER was deployed deal with remaining Avalanche terrorists.
In the meantime, Reno, along with Rude and another Turk, were assigned to conduct a globetrotting search for--and recruitment thereof--new SOLDIER candidates. When Sears leads a contingent of Avalanche solders to free the SOLDIER candidates, Reno partners with Rude and the two of them stop Shears. (As an aside, it is during this time that Azul joins SOLDIER.)
The partnership with Rude seemed to stick, and on a later mission, the two were sent to investigate the theft of confidential documents that were stolen from the 45th floor of the ShinRa headquarters. Circumnavigating the attack drones of a sabotaged security system, their investigation leads the two to unearthing, and giving chase to, the culprit. Unfortunately, the thief escapes and the two were recalled by Veld. They were then order to continue the investigation while disabling the security robots that escaped into Midgar. During this time, the two also encounter Cissnei kicking the butts of two Genesis Coplies. They also come across Tseng and Zack Fair, who had unnecessarily come to assist Cissnei. Reno and Rude’s investigation continued, and pursuing a lead into the sewer systems, and they found Professor Hollandar to be the man who stole the confidential documents. Hollandar escaped with the said of some Genesis Copies, after which Reno and Rude were recalled to Sector 8. SOLDIER was then sent to complete the investigation.
Noticing a series Rude’s unexplained disappearances from work, Reno ordered a another Turk to snoop out the cause. It was soon discovered that Rude had been dating a woman named Chelsea. Tailing the date, Reno noticed Chelsea attempting to bug Rude’s PHS. Further following her after the date, he then discovered that she was an Avalanche spy. The next day, he informed Rude about Chealea working for Avalanche, only to find that Rude already knew. She was going to defect from Avalanche, but circumstances came that she decided to go her separate way from Rude. A relationship between a Turk and a member of Avalanche could not be possible, what with being enemies. Soon after, Reno and Rude were sent to investigate Fuhito and his Ravens.
Four years later, Reno and the Turks were sent on a mission to retrieve Zack and cloud from the ShinRa military, but ultimately failed.
Soon after, Tseng, Rude, and Reno attempted to save Veld from execution. They, along with Elfe, ended up captured by ShinRa’s military. Facing the option of execution, Teng saved the captured Turks from this fate by staging the execution of Veld and Elfe. Following this, they away the return of the other Turks, who were off fighting Zirconiade. However, the resulting shockwave of Zirconiade’s defeat apparently killed the other Turks in an explosion.
Over a year later, Reno was sent to the Sector 5 Church to capture Aerith, but does not succeed. Later, by ShinRa’s order, he plants the bomb that ends up collapsing the Sector 7th pillar, resulting in the death of many civilians and Avalanche members. Incapacitated by Cloud and company, he and Rude later met up with Avalanche in Gongaga Village to settle the sore. They get their asses handed to them once again. However, when Elena and Yuffie later get taken hostage by Don Corneo in Wutei, he and Rude team up with Cloud’s group to free the girls. So, letting bygones be bygones between would-be enemies, Reno and Rude ignore their directive to capture Cloud’s group, and lets them go--claiming all the same that it is his day off. From that point onward, a semi-camaraderie seems to be held on the Turk’s part toward Cloud’s group, and any following encounters result in half-assed attempts at stopping Avalanche. After ordered to terminate Cloud’s party, Reno expresses that he’s “not really up for” fighting against them, anymore.
Although, he still jokingly antagonizes Cloud whenever he comes across the man.
In the events following Metorfall, Reno headed the evacuation of Sector 4. He later met up with the other Turks, as well as Veld, in Sector 5 to assist Tseng with evacuating civilians from a collapsing building.
In the Tseng and Elena’s mission to recover Jenova’s remains from the Northern Cave, Reno was their helicopter pilot. He escaped when Kadaj’s group intervened. Reno and Rude later come to Edge to assist Cloud’s group with finding against Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz. They also help Cloud escape from Yazoo and Lox--during the man’s pursuit of Kadaj--with some timely explosives that take out a bridge. After which, they return to Rufus’s side.
Events after The Merge resulted in what Reno could only call, “A lot of weird shit, yo.” Planet upheaved and overturned, new cities and terrain started appearing out of nowhere, while others disappeared altogether. In the resulting chaos, Reno has been sent on a mission to help make sense of the bedlam, as well as ascertain information for ShinRa’s use. He may also be involved in some Turk recruitment efforts.
