Kaile's recovery was long and slow. At first he seemed to be in pain more often than not, sweat-soaked and occasionally still bleeding, and then for a while slipped in and out of consciousness, not quite regaining his senses for some time. But though healing was slow, it was progressing, and once he deemed himself well enough to walk, he would have no more of being bedridden. It didn't matter what anyone said - his mind was set, and that was that.
But his recovery meant Terra's departure, he soon learned, something he couldn't help feeling responsible for. It had been his idea to practice her magic out there, and he had been the one to attract the behemoth to the town. In turn, she was being forced from her home, something he had tried to argue with the mayor to no success. Angered by his belligerence and feeling considerable guilt over the circumstances, he'd insisted on going with her, no matter what the destination. He made a fair bodyguard, he reasoned, what with all of his SeeD training.
The fact that there were still bandages concealed beneath his clothing was a non-issue.
And so they began to travel, first to Palumpolum on foot, and from there by airship to Bhujerba. The entire concept of the place fascinated Kaile. An entire continent in the sky? How was it kept afloat? It was the first question he'd asked of the Parijanah that met them just out of the aerodrome, but all the talk of magicite and skystone went over his head. The man had barely finished speaking before the mercenary had wandered off, taking in all the sights and sounds as a child would.
It came as no surprise that the first place he went was to the Khus Skygrounds, where he gripped the low wall bordering the walkway and leaned over it, grinning from ear to ear. Below and above, only sky and the occasional airship were visible, and to the sides, more of the floating city. The view was breathtaking, to say the least. To Kaile, it was the embodiment of freedom.
He turned his head, glancing back toward his companion with the wind throwing his hair about, his joy more than evident on his face. "Terra! Come look at the view!"
